Sales funnel is not a buzz word in Marketing.

It’s a system that you must learn to put in place if you must maximize your potential to make money online.

As usual, I’ll try my best to clarify this subject as much as possible.

After reading this post, you should know how valuable sales funnels are and how to create one for your online business confidently.

What is a Sales Funnel?

Sales funnel is the buying process through which you lead customers when purchasing products.

Let’s go from the known to the unknown by using the example of a fashion store; I believe you can easily relate to that.

Imagine that you went into a fashion store to buy some T-shirts, you bought about four pieces; then the store attendant shows you a nice pair of sneakers to match, and you got that too.

Afterward, the store attendant shows you a pair of stock jeans and says you’ll get a 5% discount on your order if you added the jeans to your purchase to which you accepted.

Then at the checkout counter, the cashier offers you another 4% discount if you’ll add a sunglass to your order.

Remember that your initial intention was to buy four pieces of T-shirts, but you ended up with additional items that you are happy about because it was a great deal.

That’s an example of an offline sales funnel.

An online sales funnel does precisely that but leverages technology.

Sales Funnel Example

So, a basic sales funnel will be something like sending people from your Advert page to your Lead Capture page, then to your Sales page, then to your checkout page, and then to your thank you or delivery page, and that is the end of the transaction.

I called it a ‘basic’ sales funnel because you are leaving so much money that could have been yours on the table and making it difficult for yourself as a business owner to break even on your ad cost.

You have to understand that when customers decide to buy, they are already in the ‘buying mode’ and are more likely to keep buying as long as you show them relevant and appealing offers.

So using myself as an example, this is what my smart sales funnel would look like;

I will send people from my Advert page to my lead capture page, then to the sales page of my Messenger Marketing course, then to the checkout page of the course, then to another sales page of my Facebook Messenger Software, then to the checkout page of the software, then to another sales page of my Facebook and YouTube Livestream software, then to the checkout page of the software before ending the sales funnel by sending them to my thank you or delivery page for all the products ordered.

So instead of selling just one product to my customers, I show them multiple closely related and upgraded offers; that way, I make more money by selling to the same customers without necessarily getting more customers.

With this smart sales funnel, I am sure of making more money than the cost of advertising, and it will work for any business.

How to Create Sales Funnel

  1. Create a valuable offer (ideally free) hosted on a landing page.
  2. Create two or three paid and upgraded products; these offers should complement the free offer which you publicized.
  3. Drive Traffic to the landing page.
  4. After subscribing, tell them that you’ll email the free but valuable offer to them but immediately re-direct to the sale page.
  5. If the prospect buys, then re-direct to another sales page.

To create a successful sales funnel; Kindly keep these two things in mind;

    1. Ensure your paid offer complements your free offer – this is how to increase your conversion rate. You’ve got to start with the end in mind; create a free offer that will attract people who will be interested in your paid offer.


  1. Drive traffic to the sales funnel by leveraging on paid ads – don’t waste your time by waiting for free traffic.

Sales Funnel Stages

According to Marsdd, the A.I.D.A. acronym represents the four stages of a functional sales funnel;

  • Awareness

It is also the Lead Stage. It’s the point where your web visitor decides to subscribe to your list.

  • Interest

It is also called the Prospect Stage. It’s the point where your subscriber is actively reading, learning, and engaging with your content.

  • Decision

It’s also called a Qualified Prospect. It’s the point where you and your subscriber agree that you both are a good fit for your business.

  • Action

It’s also called Committed and Transacted. It’s when the subscriber is now a customer.
